First experience of a German 55-country-visited cycler in HCMC & Ma Maison Boutique Hotel Saigon

Klaus Sauerberg, Germany, aged 63, is actually a Dr. of physics and going to retired at the end of this year. As almost his all life he did sports, many recent years Klaus was thinking about a “bicycle world tour”. Thanks to his good health, adventure spirit as well as good “fellow” – the bicycle, Klaus made his first 8-week trip of 4,000 km from Hamburg to Istanbul in 2007. The very first memorable experience inspired him of later bicycle trips to total 55 countries.

After 3 month of preparation, Klaus started the tour on 9 Aug 2009 in Norderstedt and followed the river Elbe to Prague - Czech Republic. From there he went to Vienna, the capital of Austria, and followed the river Danube through Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Romania. Near the city of Ruse, he crossed the border to Bulgaria and went south to Edirne - Turkey. Via Istanbul he continued to Amsara at the Black Sea, following its coast to Trabzon. Then he took buses close to the border of Iran near the famous mountain Ararat. He went through Iran (Maku, Urmia, Tabriz, Rascht, Teheran, Esfahan, Yazd and Shiraz). From Shiraz, Klaus took a flight to Dubai (UAE). He did a sidetrip to the beautiful Oman and went on to Ahmedabad - Northwest of India. By taxi he then went through Rajastan, to Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Kujraho, Varanasi and Colcata. By flight, Klaus came to Bangkok, from where he went by bicycle to Cambodia (via Poipet), to visit Battambang, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. From Phnom Penh he took a boat to Chau Doc - Vietnam. Then Klaus went on to Can Tho, My Tho and finally Ho Chi Minh City.

Coming to HCMC at first time, Klaus actually found Ma Maison Boutique Hotel Saigon on www.tripadvisor.com with guests’ good rating, detailed comments and full photos. Staying at Ma Maison, without hesitation, Klaus shared his comments about this “chateau in the village” hotel: “Ma Maison is one of the rare hits (in German: we call it “Volltreffer”) that I got on my tour. In large hotels, you sink into the anonymity, but at Ma Maison it is very familiar. The guests are talking to each other as two reasons I think: the hotel is not too large and the staff are very friendly and of great hospitality, which jumps over to the guests. Also, I extremely like the dinner at Little Bistro Restaurant and the hotel great servive”.

As many people may first think of that Ma Maison’s surroundings is noisy and complicated, like almost the guests who been to this home, Klaus feels the contrast. Ma Maison’s neighbors are friendly, helpful and with smiles on their faces all the time. The alley to the hotel is not too long especially when you are always welcomed and be proud of.

Klaus will take a flight on 24 Jan 2010 to Darwin – Australia to go down the East Coast from Cairns to Melbourne. Finally he will visit New Zealand.

As Klaus sharing, South East Asia e.g Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam are good places for cycling. Klaus may visit HCMC again in near future and for sure, to stay at Ma Maison again and not forget to recommend this hotel to his friends.

Germany’s reknown DJ – Frank Müller found surprise at Ma Maison Boutique Hotel

Frank Müller is one of Germany’s famous DJs and senior producers. Frank has toured Europe, South America, and Japan as a live act with his experimental sound of Beroshima; a combination of House and techno, which has become a trademark sound all over the world and developed through his recording labels, Acid Orange founded in 1993 and later Muller Records.

At Cage Bar and Club in Ho Chi Minh City (3A Ton Duc Thang Street, Dist.1) this time, Frank will bring his unique electronic sound pioneered since the nineties, on the night of Friday 25 September, 2009. Currently living in Berlin, this is the first time Frank has visited Vietnam and HCMC so that’s why he feels very excited about the trip. However, as Cage Bar and Club’s representatives booked the room for him at Ma Maison, he at first knew nothing about this boutique hotel.

To his surprise, he said: “I cannot believe there is such a private beautiful guesthouse like Ma Maison in Saigon, for my several trips to Thailand, Malaysia and China. I must say that I have not ever found something like this”. Truly, his first impression on Ma Maison was strong and great – “my trip is going to be perfect then”.

As a German, Frank is fond of French Provence style. He himself thinks that it is lovely and charming style to the eyes and the soul. At Ma Maison after a few days, Frank still even wonders ‘what’s a nice surprise of my trip in Saigon’.

Ma Maison Boutique Hotel is located in a short alley from the Cach Mang Thang Tam street, dist. 3 – a quite far area from the city’s heart. However, Frank does not mind to take his 20 minutes from here to the centre. As his sharing, district 1 is too Westernize and such a business place that he might not prefer, Ma Maison met his taste of a non-tourist, nature and real Vietnam life.

After the performance in Saigon, Frank will fly to Hanoi – a place that he found there would be a big difference between the North and Saigon. However, if having a chance of living here at HCMC, he wishes to run a Japanese hotel with traditional facilities that he has planned in Berlin. To Frank, Saigon is still a big place for him to discover and he would come back soon with his family.
